It is not enough to say we must not wage war. It is necessary to love peace and sacrifice for it.
Martin Luther King, Jr.
Dear Friends of CEASE
With your support and participation, CEASE continues to advocate for peace, justice and economic opportunity and address the issues affecting children that you find most compelling in these times of economic and social uncertainty. We address issues that are critical to the well-being of children, including technology and its use by young children, nuclear perils, the root causes of violence and the need for educational reform. We thank you for your past support and hope you will renew your membership in our CEASE network of parents, teachers and other concerned individuals who are working toward a safe and more equitable world.
This year’s Fall Packet includes our invitation for you to join us in Orlando at the annual NAEYC Conference, November 1-5, 2011. Please attend the CEASE and LGBT Interest Forum Collaborative Session, “How Can Preschools Help before Bullying Begins toward Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Children? A teacher’s role in empowering adults and children to change the future.” We also encourage you to attend our CEASE Special Interest Group meeting which follows.
Our packet includes articles by CEASE members that address topics you will find relevant and inform and support your work. You will find highlights of the CEASE 2011 Working Retreat on the East Coast, a report on the recent Save Our Schools March and conference, and an article exploring ways we can make learning environments welcoming and inclusive. Updates from our close partners, the Campaign to Ratify the Children’s Rights, Convention, TRUCE (Teachers Resisting Unhealthy Children’s Entertainment), Nonviolence in the Lives of Children Project and the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood are featured. You are welcome to reproduce and share all materials in this packet.
Book reviews round out this issue of our fall packet. We hope to see you in Orlando.
Our hopes for peace for all, and best wishes to you,
