P.E.A.C.E. Needs You!
As we indicated last month, the leadership of our organization is growing old. We need a new infusion of younger leaders, eager to help more young children learn the skills and inclinations to get along with others without resorting to violence.
This is an invitation to all our members! Please consider becoming a more active member of P.E.A.C.E., by offering yourself for nomination to the P.E.A.C.E. Council, the governing body of P.E.A.C.E. We will be holding elections for members to our Council at the NAEYC Conference in November, and we hope that you might consider being elected to serve.
If you feel motivated to work for peace education with those who care for young children and their families throughout the U.S., please get in touch with us through 1peaceeducators@gmail.com, letting us know of your background and interest. We will be holding elections for our Council, the governing body of P.E.A.C.E., at our membership meeting in November. If the Council is not your preference, you can volunteer for one of our committees:
- Newsletter
- Website
- Finance
- Peace Projects
We’ll be inviting all members to join in that November meeting in person or by Zoom.
The Council meets by Zoom a few times during the year, and votes remotely on various issues between meetings. The Council has a meeting in person and on Zoom in early summer and at the NAEYC Conference. And membership in P.E.A.C.E. is free, in consideration for the economics of early childhood peace educators. The burdens of leadership are light and widely shared, and the work is rewarding.
As you’re aware, healthy relationships begin in early childhood. We are blessed and challenged with the ability to build peace for those in our care, and their families and communities, and through them the future of our world. Please join with us as a leader!
Child Care Left Out of Inflation Reduction Act
President Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act on Monday, August 15, but it didn’t include the necessary rescue for the young children of America and their families. The lack of affordable childcare is likely to keep many parents out of the workforce, so our national economy will suffer as well. When the Senate passed the bill, Senate Majority Leader Schumer said,
“I pledge to my colleagues and to the American people that I will keep working with Senator Murray until we get something done to increase access to high-quality child care for working families.”
We need to keep the pressure up to get Congress to address this festering problem. Please keep after your Senators and Representatives when they come home to rest or run again.
Get Your Young Children Vaccinated!
Everyone 6 months of age and older is now eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccination. Kids from the ages of 5 and older are now eligible for a booster. It’s good for your health, it’s good for the health of the children in your care, and it’s good for their families too. The more eligible people we can get vaccinated and boosted, the easier it will be for life to return to normal for all of us.
