September 11 — Grandparents Day
According to the website National Today, “like Mother’s day and Father’s day we also have a whole day dedicated to our grandparents. Grandparents and children have a special connection that is proven to both make grandparents live longer, and also make children more emotionally resilient.”
September 21 — International Day of Peace
On September 21, the world celebrates International Peace Day. This year the theme is End Racism. Build Peace. The International Day of Peace was established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly. Two decades later, in 2001, the General Assembly unanimously voted to designate this day as a period of non-violence and cease-fire. “We want this day to be devoted to commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.”
September 23 — International Day of Sign Language
The International Day of Sign Language is a day when we acknowledge the cultural diversity and the linguistic identity of not only deaf people around the world, but other sign language users as well. There are approximately 72 million deaf people worldwide, of which over 80% live in developing countries.
