Congress!

Now that Congress is back at work, please do call or email (preferably through the Senator’s or Representative’s website) about these action messages for legislators:

  1. Please work to keep the Government open at least for the rest of 2017.
  2. In your Budget decisions, please increase domestic discretionary spending on matters that make a difference for your constituents, like support for early childhood, and reduce bloated military expenditures.
  3. 3. In making appropriations for the next Federal Fiscal Year, please increase support for the Child Care and Development Block Grant by at least $1.2 billion, so that States can provide meaningful help for the children who need it most.  For further information, please see  http://www.naeyc.org/policy/agendas.
  4. 4. If you call your Senator or Representative’s office (202) 224-3121 for the Senate, (202) 225-3121 for the House, please get the contact information for the staff person who handles children’s and education issues.  You can use those contacts for future communications with the officials, and your messages will go far beyond the numerical tallies that most calls, petitions, and messages get.

NAEYC Conference

Today is the deadline for early bird registration discounts for the NAEYC Annual Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, on November 15-18.  We have posted, on their Peace Educators Interest Forum page, available to all NAEYC members, the sessions, times, and locations, of interest to peace educators.  Here is a link:  http://hello.naeyc.org/communities/community-home?CommunityKey=54b62147-b6c9-4bfd-b3be-3fea2319ae5c.  If you are not a NAEYC member, you can get a copy of the list from 1peaceeducators@gmail.com.

What’s Next

Our October news will include background materials for our annual seminar, That’s Not Fair:  Cultivating Children’s Activism, which will happen in Room B308 on Friday, November 17, from 3-4:30.  It will be followed by our Annual meeting.

We expect to have a new website up at our same address, www.peaceeducators.org, before the NAEYC conference.  We’ll let you know when it’s up.

We welcome your feedback on our communications, through 1peaceeducators@gmail.com.
