August 6 — Bombing of Hiroshima Japan, 80 Years ago 1945
Innocent children were sacrificed in the war started by adults. I hope that, from time to time, people remember children like Sadako. Until nuclear weapons are abolished from the world, I will never give up and will continue to tell her story.
Masahiro Sasaki, the brother of Sadako Sasaki, a young girl who died from the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima at the age of 12
A Children Peace Memorial was established in 2025 by the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear weapons (ICAN), in commemoration of the 80th anniversaries of nuclear bombings.
The memorial was established in 2025 by the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), with the support of various other organisations, to commemorate the 80th anniversaries of the nuclear bombings. An estimated 210,000 people perished instantly or died from injuries shortly after, including 38,000 children.
One way to become an activist for the disarmament of nuclear weapons is by sending paper cranes to decision makers in your local governments. In Japan, paper cranes are the symbols for longevity and good health. They are an ongoing reminder of how we strive for peace and nuclear disarmament in our world.

Another action we can take together is by considering the following:
- Ask your elected representatives to sign the ICAN Parliamentary Pledge;
- Ask your local council to endorse the ICAN Cities Appeal;
- Ask your bank, insurance company or pension fund to join the Nuclear Weapons Free Finance Initiative.
Finally, please encourage people to visit the Children Peace Memorial site to deepen their understanding of the terrible harm that nuclear weapons inflict on children.
