As we go to press, Congress is moving toward its August recess, when Senators and Congressmen will be at home in your jurisdiction. The House has just passed a resolution to keep Federal funding at existing levels through December, but the Senate is likely to contest that because of the war in Iran. Even so, there are strong moves among members of both parties to improve the funding and mechanisms of Federal support for early childhood care and education, including the Child Care Modernization Act.
We need to use this great opportunity to reach out to our Senators and Representative to get them to be more active about our issues. Too many parents can’t work because they can’t afford good child care, and too many early childhood professionals who care can’t afford the poverty pay that we get when governments don’t support high-quality early childhood education.
Many of your Senators and Representatives support us, and many others can be convinced if you make the effort to tell them your stories in your own way. Sometimes the parents that you work with can be energized in this way too. Please use August to make a difference. You and the providers and families you work with may see the difference. 💡 Explore https://www.naeyc.org/value-voice-vote resources for ways to make your voice heard. Thanks.
